General - Important days/occassions and special offerings to different Deities

For Goddess Badra Kali

All Tuesdays, Fridays, all Bharani star days and specially the Bharani day of Meena (Pisces) month and mandala vratha (41 days special rituals) normally falling during Vrischika and Dhanu months (November and December).

Red silk cloths, kuruthi (a red colored water prepared by mixing water, calcium and turmeric powder) and Payasam (a preparation with cooking of strong raw sugar candy, rice and water) are the special offerings.


For Goddess Durga

Karthik star day of all months are important days for worship of Goddess Durga. The Karthik day of Vrischik month (falls in Feb - March months of English calendar) is still more important. Other important occasion is the Navarathri festival time falling in Sept - Oct months of the English Calendar.

The main offering is Nei Payasam (a preparation made of rice, jaggery (raw sweet prepared out of sugar cane juice) and ghee with some spices like cardamom and dry fruits like Cashew and dry grapes.

For Goddess Parvathy

For Goddess Parvathy offer a garland made out of Asoka flowers (Saraca asoca), Pichak poo (Fabiana imbricata) and Chembak flower to adorn on head for prosperity.

Offer garland made out of lotus buds with due observance of Thingal Vratha (Monday - Somavara vrath) to beget a good natured husband. The garland has to be made by the concerned lady devotee herself.


For Lord Siva

All Pradoshas (thrayodasi saayam sandhya - dusk of the 13th day of waxing moon of all months), Sivarathri falling in February - March of the English Calendar, Thruvathira (Aarudra) star days and Ashtami thithi (8ty day) of waning moon of all months are important days to worship lord Siva for more effect.

Main offerings are abhishek (sacred bath) through Conch (Sanku), Dhara (arranging for water falling continuously  on the Siva Linga from a copper pot with a small hole at bottom suspended above), abhishek by 'ilaneer' (tender coconut water), a lighted lamp at the back and adorning of the linga with Bilva maala (Bael leaves garland) are the important offerings. 

For Lord Vishnu

Offer Paal payasam (a preparation made out of rice cooked in milk with sugar) for prosperity
Offer butter for  begetting children.

Offer 'Thrimadhuram' (a mix of plantain pieces, ghee and honey) for increase in intelligence.

Offer Kadali banana fruit (a special kind of banana mainly used to offer in temples) for harmony in family, prosperity and good health.  

Offer 'aval' (rice flakes) pounded rice for getting good crop in agriculture and income.
