Vishnu related - Rama, Ramayan and Kasi - Varanasi

Death Kasi - Varanasi considered as sacrosanct

Among the Hindus there is a belief that if one dies at Kasi - Varanasi will not have another birth and will reach permanent merger with the god. Why is to so? The reason attributed by the holy scriptures is that Lord Siva say the name Rama in the ears of the persons dying here. For this reason only Hindus believe that during the life time at least once a visit to Kasi - Varanasi is a must before death.

About Ramayana

The Vatmiki (Valmiki) Ramayana is having 24,000 stanzas (slokas). According to a belief there were 1 crore of slokas - stanzas to Ramayana. The Devas, Asuras and the Maharishis wanted to have all these to themselves and were in constant fights. Finally all the 3 groups decided to go to Lord Siva and get solution this quarrel. According they went to Lord Siva and mentioned their problem to him. Lord Siva made them to agree to the condition that whatever decision he takes  should be accepted by all the 3 groups which was agreed by them. Lord Siva gave each group 33,33,333 slokas or stanzas each to each group. After this division there was one sloka or stanza left out. This one sloka had 332 letters in it. Lord Siva gave each group 110 letters each. Then there were 2 letters left out. He said that these 2 letters cannot be distributed equally to the groups. The Lord informed the groups that he as the 2 letters cannot be divided he is keeping the 2 letters as his reward for the job of distribution. As agreed in the beginning itself all the 3 groups agreed to the distribution but expressed their desire to know the 2 letters left out and kept by the Lord. The Lord Siva mentioned the 2 words as Rama, Rama, Rama.
